Portugal Telecom to launch exclusive channels on Meo
July 24, 2012
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Portugal Telecom is planning three TV channels which will be exclusively available on the Meo pay-TV platform (available via IPTV and satellite).
A Bola TV is the result of a partnership with Portuguese publishing group Vicra, which owns the A Bola sports daily, and will be launched in September on position 12. Vicra expects to invest at least €3 million in the venture.
Thanks to a deal with public broadcaster RTP, some of the programs will also be available to international viewers, via the RTP Internacional and RTP Africa channels.
The second TV channel will be Correio da Manhã TV (CM TV), a partnership with the Cofina publishing group, and yet again a TV version of a Portuguese daily newspaper. CM TV should be available on Meo from February 2013, with 60 per cent of the schedule dedicated to news and information and the rest to entertainment.
Finally, a third TV channel could start broadcasting by the end of this month, according to Portugal Telecom CEO, Zeinal Bava, although he refused to provide any additional information during a press conference.
