RTL boosted by X-Factor

RTL Group boosted its net profit 8.9 per cent last year, aided by major gains at its FremantleMedia unit – mainly from X-Factor America.
RTL, which owns 45 channels across Europe, saw full-year profits to December 31st of €795 million compared with €730 million 12 months prior. Revenue was up 4.2 per cent at €5.76 billion, from 2010’s figure of €5.53 billion.
Chief executive Gerhard Zeiler, presiding over his last set of results before leaving RTL after nine years to join Turner Broadcasting, praised the “outstanding performance” of FremantleMedia’s US operation for helping the business bounce back after a tough 2010.
RTL is a Bertelsmann subsidiary.
