Top TV looks like losing Current TV

The decision by BSkyB to cease transmissions in March of Al Gore’s Current TV is affecting the channel’s distribution to TopTV in South Africa. It went on air over South Africa in May last year. Current TV also has an Italian version (on Sky Italia) operated out of a Milan office.
As BSkyB is the channel’s biggest non-USA broadcast client, this decision will affect its ability to maintain operations, which will in turn impact on the channel being available to the South African market.
TopTV says it is currently in discussions with the channel’s management to discuss various options and possible alternative solutions to continue to broadcast the channel.
Meanwhile, Current TV claims 30 million homes can view its programming in the US.
