iPlayer usage up on tablets
October 17, 2011
The BBC has revealed in a blog post that tablet devices now account for half as much usage of the iPlayer service as Freesat, Freeview, BT Vision, Virgin TiVo and Blu-ray combined (3 per cent vs 6 per cent).
The iPlayer received 153 million requests for TV and radio programmes in September, with Tablet requests at an all time high with 4.6 million requests, an increase of 0.6 million from 4.0 million in August.
The overall 153 million figure was slightly down from 155 million in August. Online TV requests remain by far the highest proportion of iPlayer usage at 65 per cent, while Virgin Media cable TV claimed 15 per cent.
Mobile devices now eclipse games consoles (6 per cent vs 5 per cent), but the iPlayer’s imminent arrival on Xbox 360 will probably see that statistic change.
