UK networks to use Virgin backhaul
September 7, 2011
MBNL, which provides shared infrastructure for the UK mobile operations of Orange, T-Mobile and Three, is moving its data backhaul to Virgin Media’s business division.
The company will use Virgin Media Business’s Sync-E service, which will enable faster access to mobile data on the move for users of Everything Everywhere — the joint-venture company which runs Orange and T-Mobile in the UK — and Hutchison’s Three.
Neil Berkett, CEO of Virgin Media said: “Being connected all the time to social networks, the Internet and their favourite apps is very much a basic expectation which operators need to deliver on.”
The transaction between MBNL and Virgin Media Business is valued at over £100 million and is valid for eight years. The deployment will help MBNL lay the foundations for the move towards 4G.
