The value – and subscriber appeal – of two-way digital transmission is paying off for Mexican MSO Megacable. While its overall subs base has only expanded 2 per cent (to 1.77 million) its investment in digital transmission has helped push subscriber growth of 133 per cent to 738,000(as at June 30). 97 per cent of the network is bi-directional.
In the past year, Megacable has added 421,000 digital subs, with 148,000 joining in 2Q/2011. Video supply is the backbone of Megacable’s income, representing 61 per cent of its total revenues of $103.6 million.
The MSO has 594,000 broadband and 451,000 telephony clients. Megacable passes 5.39 million homes, up 7 per cent on a year ago.
