Apple mulling Hulu bid?
July 22, 2011
Following midweek indications that prospective bidder Microsoft would not be pursuing its interest in buying online video service Hulu, reports now suggest that Apple could be considering entering the fray, according to “two people who weren’t authorised to speak publicly”. The two sources spoke with Bloomberg, describing the negotiations as “early talks that may lead to an offer for Hulu.”
Hulu is touting itself around to potential acquirers after deciding not to go through with a $2 billion IPO.
An attractive feature for any successful bidder is a promise of five years of programming, including two years of exclusivity for the programming on Hulu, consisting of content from the Walt Disney Company, News Corp. and Comcast’s NBC Universal.
Although Microsoft is reportedly no longer interested, Yahoo is still thought to be in contention.
