Chile pay-TV nears 2m subs

During the first quarter of 2011, Chile added 43,000 net new pay TV subscribers taking the overall total to 1.97 million users, according to data from Chile’s Telecoms ministry. The largest operator gain was with Telefónica which recorded almost 18,000 new users.
The core audience was numbered at just 882,000 DTH subscribers, and 1.09 million wireless, cable or IPTV subs. Claro recorded a total of 387,000 subscribers including its cable and DTH operations.
During the first quarter, Claro added about 16,000 subs. Telefónica recorded 354,000 subscribers; whereas, DirecTV added 8,000 clients reaching a total of 206,000 users.
Telefónica del Sur’s IPTV added about 4,000 new subscribers and closed March with 38,000 clients. In contrast, the DTH operator TuVes HD lost more than 7,000 subscribers and recorded 27,000 clients
