CNTV to launch IPTV trials this year
June 22, 2011
Yang Xinshuang, deputy director of the IPTV division of CCTV’s national online TV station CNTV, has disclosed that CNTV, in conjunction with local cable TV and telecom operators has completed construction of IPTV broadcast and control sub-platforms in China’s network convergence trial cities, with broadcasting scheduled to begin some time this year.
Yang said that CNTV has already begun broadcasting IPTV services in Yunnan and Sichuan Province. The first batch of network convergence trial cities (Beijing, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong) has successfully tested connections with CNTV’s national IPTV broadcast and control platform, meeting all requirements for broadcasting. The start of broadcasting has been delayed, however, as local cable TV and telecom operators have yet to finalize implementation plans.
CNTV’s IPTV services currently offer 100 SD TV channels, 10 HD channels, and VoD services, with over 1,000 films and 1,000 TV series on the broadcast and control platform. CNTV IPTV also offers VOD content from global TV stations such as BBC, National Geographic, KBS, and TVB.
