Gol TV football rights blow
February 7, 2011
From David Del Valle in Madrid
The acquisition by Digital Plus of pay-TV rights to the European Champions League from 2012 is a hard blow for Mediapro’s pay DTT channel Gol TV, current holder of the rights.
Digital+ has acquired the rights to live and delayed action from all of the competition’s matches, with the exception of the Tuesday first-match pick. Under the terms of the three-year deal, the digital satellite platform will also air highlights programmes on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
The rights will be additionally exploited via Digital+ websites and via the broadcaster’s mobile portal. The remaining rights on offer in Spain include live coverage of the Tuesday first-match pick, the Champions League Final and the UEFA Super Cup along with the non-exclusive Tuesday and Wednesday highlights programmes.
