January 18, 2011
Dahlia TV, the Italian DTT platform, is preparing for close down after going into liquidation earlier this month. The company is owned by Airplus TV of Sweden with a minority share for Telecom Italia Media The company has already ceased operations Spain and Portugal.
Dahlia had acquired one of the two exclusive packages of the Serie A Italian football for two seasons for €63 million, but failed to compete against Mediaset and Sky Italia, reaching just 750,000 subscribers against Sky Italia’s 4.8 million and Mediaset’s 3.3 million.
According to some reports Mediaset is still considering a purchase to expand its DTT offering.
