Canal Plus discards analogue
November 24, 2010
French pay TV channel Canal Plus has gone fully digital across the whole of France, one year before the official switchover deadline. “From November 24th, Canal Plus is fully digital. We are the first national free-to-air channel to stop analogue broadcasting, and it’s a key moment to us”, commented Canal Plus CEO Bertrand Meheut.
Canal+ Plus has aided the conversion by dispatching free decoders to the last few analogue subscribers. The digital breakdown among Canal Plus subscribers shows that 74 per cent have opted for DTT, 15 per cent for satellite, 7 per cent for IPTV and four per cent for cable.
Canal Plus has also unveiled its new website, allowing subscribers to watch programmes live and in catch-up from their home computers.
