Telefonica pay subs grow

Telefónica Spain's Imagenio service added 48,725 pay-TV subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2009, taking its customer base to 702,980, up 14.8 per cent year-on-year. It said that the now had a pay-TV market share of 17 per cent, based on coverage that was limited to only 60 per cent of Spanish households.
Telefónica said that 88 per cent of its Spanish customers now took double or triple-play services. The company's broadband base in Spain stood at 5.5 million, up 4.4 per cent.
Globally, Telefónica had 2.5 million pay-TV customers at the end of 2009, up 9.8 per cent year-on-year. The company provides TV services in Spain, the Czech Republic, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Brazil, Venezuela and Argentina. Global broadband customers stood at 13.5 million, up 8.2 per cent.
Telefónica as a whole posted revenues of E56.7bn for the year, and operating income before depreciation and amortisation of E15.3 billion.
