January 28, 2010
From Branislav Pekic in Rome
Italian public broadcaster Rai and satellite operator Eutelsat have signed a collaboration agreement that will facilitate the transition to television of the future.
Several technology issues will be covered by the research and experimentation: Stereoscopic TV (3D) in HD, the development of innovation networks for the feeding of urban repeaters for hybrid DVB-H/S satellite-terrestrial networks and digital terrestrial DVB T2 networks, satellite distribution of first and second generation HDTV signals, the development of television services on Ka-band satellites and over IP networks via satellite, the distribution of interactive multimedia services over satellite networks with a return channel.
This latest development will further strengthen the multi-annual collaboration on technology innovation and research on advanced broadcasting systems between Eutelsat and Rai.
