Telefonica Argentina VOD in March 2010
September 30, 2009
Telefonica plans to commercially launch an IPTV video-on-demand service in Argentina in March 2010. The service will be based on its Speedy broadband technology. Expected to compete with Cablevision’s pay-per-view offering, the VOD service content will include movies, series, children’s content, documentaries and music concerts.
The service will initially be available to Telefonica’s Speedy subscribers in the capital and Greater Buenos Aires area, to be later expanded throughout the country according to reports. To access the service and receive the additional modem, customers will be required to pay a monthly subscription, whose value has not been set yet. The subscription is expected to cover a promotional package with free content, accessible both on PCs and TV sets. Users will only be charged for the additional content, not included in the service package.
