15% of Korean Cable Subs Digital

The Korean Cable TV Association said the number of digital cable TV subscribers stood at 2. 3 million as of the end of June, accounting for 15.1 percent of all 15.3 million cable TV subscribers. By cable TV broadcaster, 146,565, or 32.4 percent of 453,042 GS subscribers have switched to digital, together with 663,669 or 30.7 percent of 2.2 million C&M subscribers.
At a session of cable TV system operators nationwide early this year, the Korea Communications Commission advised them to increase their subscribers’ digital TV switchover rate to 30 percent this year.
The cable TV industry plans to secure 4.5 million more digital subscribers this year. And it will work to get 70 percent of all cable TV subscribers to switch over to digital TV by 2011, and 100 percent by 2013.
