Cross-platform services way ahead for cable
February 6, 2009
Research firm Light Reading has compiled a report that scopes out the types of cross-platform services that cable operators may roll out, focusing on service features and the emerging technologies that will support them.
Even though it will cost more to implement new technologies, cable operators are likely to move to cross-platform technologies to improve their competitive positioning versus telco rivals, the firm says. “In the short term, cable will benefit from simple applications running on application servers and existing infrastructure,” he explains. “In the long term, most cable systems will require comprehensive content management systems and service layers that provide a broad, integrated platform to deliver content and apps tailored for multiple devices, as well as the back-office processes to manage them.”
