Accedo opens iPad and Tablet TV innovation studio
Accedo Broadband has announced that the company is opening a unit dedicated to innovation around the usage of iPads and other tablet devices in a TV context.
TV usage as we know it will evolve rapidly over the coming 10 years, commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo Broadband. We believe that some consumers will use their iPad or any other tablet device to interface with TV content and applications, either in the living room, when moving around the house, or elsewhere.
The new Tablet Innovation Studio will be placed at AccedoČs main R&D office in Stockholm, Sweden and will work with a range of new innovative applications together with partners and customers.
WeČre excited about the opportunities presented by tablet devices, continued Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo Broadband. We expect these devices to have a significant impact on consumer TV consumption behaviour, due to their nature as both a media consumption platform, as well as an attractive interaction interface, capable of connecting to TV devices.
Accedo Broadband will be showcasing iPad apps in its booth #703-704 at IBC in Amsterdam, September 9-14.
Telstra selects Ruckus Wi-Fi tech for T-Box service
Australian telco Telstra has selected Ruckus to provide its Smart 802.11n Wi-Fi systems for the telco's hybrid DTT+IP service 'T-Box'.
The Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi systems are being offered as an option for Telstra customers who need to connect their set-top box beyond the reach of an Ethernet connection or normal Wi-Fi connectivity. The T-Box service was launched last June and combines free-to-air DTT channels, the Internet TV service BigPond TV, movie downloads and PVR capabilities.
To take advantage of Ruckus Wi-Fi routing, Telstra customers have to purchase and plug in a pre-configured Ruckus Smart Wi-Fi system that includes a 5GHz 802.11n access point and 5GHz wireless adapter.
