NDS TO DEMONSTRATE HOW OPERATORS CAN MAKE MONEY OUT OF DIGITAL CABLE AT MEDIACAST 2002

Live demonstrations of low cost, high functionality set-top boxes
incorporating multiple middlewares such as NDS Core, Liberate and
OpenTV.
NDS XTV (TM) advanced PVR technology provides new revenue generating
opportunities. NDS's Open VideoGuard conditional access and set-top box
(STB) integration capabilities enable network operators to support cost
effective digital infrastructure.

Stand R18, Mediacast, London - March 20th, 2002- NDS Group plc, a News
Corporation company, and the leading provider of conditional access
systems and interactive applications for digital pay TV, will
demonstrate cost effective set-top box (STB) solutions that include
NDS's secure Open VideoGuard (TM) conditional access at London's leading
broadband technology event, Mediacast 2002. A key NDS role is to act
as both STB and systems integrator. Working with numerous STB
manufacturers and middleware suppliers, NDS is committed to providing
multiple STBs with standard specifications allowing operators to rapidly
drive down costs whilst enabling fast time to market so bringing
additional revenues and profits sooner.

Visitors to the NDS stand at Mediacast will see how low cost, high
functionality STBs can help operators offer consumers what they want in
functionality whilst giving the operator a low cost secure entry to
market.

Demonstrations on the stand will include:

Low cost STB: NDS will demonstrate a cost-effective STB
powered by NDS Core (TM) middleware that offers excellent functionality
and revenue-generating interactive capabilities which has successfully
proved to be the starting point for many operators. NDS Core enables
operators to run HTML and Java applications on low-cost digital STBs
because the NDS solution requires a very small memory footprint.

Advanced PVR STB: The personalized video recorder (PVR) is now a
reality. NDS XTV (TM) technology provides operators with new business
opportunities to attract and retain subscribers while increasing
revenues and helping to prevent and reduce churn. NDS will be
demonstrating simple yet compelling features to show how NDS XTV, now
launched in the UK through BSkyB's Sky+ advanced STB, is already
enabling new business models.

David Nabozny, Vice President & General Manager, NDS EMEA said: "NDS
believes that set-top boxes hold the key to generating revenues through
cable. One size does not fit all. Operators want to be able to choose
from a range of low-priced set-top boxes that can run new innovative
services through to products that can provide advanced PVR capabilities
and interactive services in the most cost-effective manner. What this
means is that NDS can help you provide the right consumer product for
the right mix of services saving unnecessary extra cost in deployment."

Leading cable operators worldwide have selected NDS to provide their
Open VideoGuard (TM) conditional access technology, systems integration
and interactive application capabilities. These include Stream (Italy),
Cablevision (USA), Foxtel (Australia), Auna (Spain), Tevel and Matav
(Israel). NDS has recently announced new digital cable contract wins in
China (CCTV), Russia (Versatel) and Taiwan (China Network Systems).

In May 2002 the production of new generation of motors (SM3) is being
started. In comparison with the older generation the main improvements
are: housing made of alluminium, smaller volume for 65%, electronic
control of position of satellites and wider range of movement. At last
but not least, in year 2002 a Pick and place line for PCB production
is being restored for Sat Control's own needs and to outbid its
services. This is another extension of many that Sat Control has already
made.

CAM: Conditional Access Module
Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) slot into the set-top box through a
common interface and use a smart card to descramble encrypted TV
signals.
These are designed to reduce the number of hacking attacks by ensuring a
tighter level of security for the provider. From a software point of
view
the application is downloaded during the manufacturing process within a
secure, Private and Public key infrastructure, by using RSA algorithms.
New
code upgrades are carried out via satellite, terrestrial or cable
broadcasting. On the hardware side, it is possible to protect the module
itself as the software protected code is in a chip set. This in effect
provides 'double locking' which prevents both the hardware and the
software being tampered with. Secure Loader and Secure Download-over-
the-Air are some of the new security features of CAMs. All major
Conditional Access Systems like: Irdeto, Viaccess, Conax(CAS3),
Nagravision, Cryptoworks, Scopus Networks and Chinese Tsing-Hua-Tong-
Fang support Conditonal Access Modules.

Security became in the area of Digital TV most important issue of Smart
Card based Conditional Access Systems. Illegal use of components in the
Digital TV chain is forbidden - hacking must be prevented. With the use
of Conditional Access Modules the security level can be raised
dramatically to ensure the revenue and return-of-invest of the operator.

Multicrypt Test Tool
The Multicrypt Test Tool helps the set top box and iDTV industry to
develop, test and qualify the common interface communication. With more
than 200 test scenarios and different modes the box manufacturers can
now
easily test and qualify its receiver platforms based fully on DVB and
CCETT
requirements.

St@rkey

The St@rkey receiver unique in the market. It is a receiver which
combines digital TV (DVB/MPEG-2) and data casting application (IP/MPEG-4) in one
single box. It also has USB interface for computers. Key features are
two integrated Common Interface slots for Conditional Access Modules and a
smart card interface for encrypted IP streams downloaded from satellite.
The product is designed for easy and fast installation and its interface
is future proofed for compatibility issues. This comes in two versions
satellite receiver (St@rKey QPSK) and terrestrial receiver (St@rKey
OFDM)

dramatically to ensure the revenue and return-of-invest of the operator.
Secure Loader, Secure Download-over-the-Air and mechanical features are
some of the new security features of CAMs.
The use of digital Terrestrial networks in Europe and Asia is increasing
constantly. The St@rkey OFDM receiver combines digital TV (DVB/MPEG-2)
and datacasting application (IP/MPEG-4) on one single box with USB
interface for computers. Main features are two integrated Common
Interface slots for the flexible use of Conditional Access Modules and
the SmartCard interface for encrypted IP streams coming from satellite.
Easy, fast installation combined with future proof interfaces makes the
St@rkey receiver unique in the market.

SCM Microsystems is heavily involved in developments and invents to
increase security level of Digital TV to prevent the illegal use of
Conditional Access Descrambling. Conditional Access Modules is the
potential platform for operators to guarantee the return of invest of
operators.
No doubt, Digital-TV is increasing worldwide, the industry is entering
the Digital TV market with new products and services. Operators and
broadcasters prepare for the analogue switch-off. Operators investing in
upgrading its terrestrial-, satellite- and cable infrastructure for
Digital-TV and Interactivity.
Subsidised expensive business models can be history with an open- and
horizontal market model where the customers have the choice of digital
receivers with Common Interface. Removable Conditional Access Modules
offer more flexibility to the customer. The major advantage for the
operator is that he can focus on the content rather than on hardware.
Interoperability is the key for developing Digital-TV worldwide. The DVB
Common Interface Standard helps the consumer electronic industry to
qualify and test different kind of CI Set-Top-Boxes.
