Miramax ‘invigorated’ by digital

October 4, 2011

From Colin Mann @ MIPCOM

Hollywood studio Miramax has been invigorated by the digital age, according to CEO Mike Lang.

Delivering a Media Mastermind keynote at MIPCOM, Lang described the studio’s new approach as “a bit more Silicon Valley than Hollywood,” adding that Miramax was a media company that was almost forgotten and the digital market wasn’t really a focus of its former owners (The Walt Disney Company).

The studio now intends to leverage more effectively its library of content, which includes films such as Pulp Fiction, onto digital platforms, having partnered with US streaming giant Netflix, aggregator Hulu and Facebook. “It’s a question of innovate or die,” he said. “Our library presents a tremendous opportunity.”
