Remote Control and Monitoring Online system supporting the operational functions of the earth station equipment, comprising a 'supervisor' and 'workstation' allowing Earth Station functions to be undertaken via a computer screen in a remote location. Workstations can be connected via PSTN and ISDN lines, and can provide control of multiple earth stations on multiple sites.

Synopsis: Creating new revenue streams for service providers
The race to create new revenue streams from broadband digital services is now well and truly on, with cable, satellite and terrestrial TV service providers all intent on getting a slice of the action. The new interactive services that they provide will be greatly influenced by much of what is happening on the Internet, both in terms of the technology employed and the business models adopted. Providers of Internet-based interactive services will now be able concentrate on media intensive content development (combinations of audio, video and graphics) and for most service providers, the subscriber end of this media-centric platform will take the form of a set-top box. Anticipating the increased set-top box functionality required, Philips Semiconductors' Nexperia(tm) Home Entertainment Engines are able to combine digital video, audio, graphics and Internet content into highly interactive program material, and record it on hard disk for time- shifted viewing. In addition, Nexperia(tm) facilitates home connectivity and networking,which is another key factor in Consumer electronics.
Mike Greenall's presentation will describe how providers are enabled to add enhanced digital subscriber services to their existing TV channel offerings (including interactive gaming, video-on-demand, advanced electronic programming guides, voice and video IP telephony etc.). PTX iPoweris a PolyTrax OEM product based on PTX ASSOS which offers internet access at every power socket. The telephone line is connected to the 230 V power supply system within a flat or a building by a special gateway. Data from the telephone line are therefore available at every socket in all rooms. New Product Launch:
PROMAX is been committed to the development of DTT from the very beginning. First priority being the development of equipment to install and maintain the systems, from simple direct reception systems to more complex SMATV configurations.
The ideal set of measurements in reception of Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) are: Digital Channel Power (DCP) Carrier to Noise (C/N) Channel Status Information (CSI) Bit Error Rate (BER) DVB Channel Identification (DCI) Total number of Wrong Packets (WP) over certain period of time Number of transmission interruptions over certain period of time
The two latter measurements are referred to impulsive or random noise. Some times, it is said that BER is not important, detection of impulsive noise is not a requirement, the 6 dB margin is not necessary, the C/N is a basic issue but it can be measured in the next or nearest empty channel. It all depends on the concept. If a meter is required to install the system with a safety margin and for troubleshooting problems when they appear, the above statements are wrong. When the meter is just required for alignment of the antenna assuming there will not be any reception problems, it might be accepted. But only the measurement of all those parameters will warranty complete customer's satisfaction in the worst case.
We come to the point when the debate about basic measurements requirement opens up. Some operators have been even pushing the idea that meters are not required to do the job. But, this becomes very weak when first basic problems arise. In general we can agree that a standard simple meter might fulfil the basic requirements of antenna installers.
These basic measurements are: Digital Channel Power (DCP) Carrier to Noise (C/N) 6 dB Margin Test using the reception installation and verifying the correct image by means the STB and the customer TV or by means an IRD.
To cover this lower range requirement, we have designed the PRODIG-2. The PRODIG-2 measures the Digital Channel Power (DCP) across the whole channel.
The measurement of the Noise floor is the biggest technical challenge. Accuracy is here a key issue on an instrument without BER. C/N will be the ultimate measurement to decide whether the signal is good or bad. Measuring the Noise accurately implies measuring it within the same channel as the carrier. Some manufacturers do state accuracies even with a digital figure when in reality the reference is taken in the next channel or even in the next free channel. This is adding a degree of uncertainty that might be higher than the own C/N accuracy specified by the manufacturer. If you consider a fluctuation of +/-5 dB over the band, for instance, and the meter specifies +/-3 dB, the real C/N accuracy will be 8 dB, making the measurement useless. A second problem comes when the Noise floor of the system is lower than the noise of the own meter. Some manufacturers are suggesting the use of amplifiers which allows a closer indication to the real C/N but, at same time adds more uncertainty to the measurement.
The PRODIG-2 is measuring the C/N inside the channel under test, or more exactly, in the extreme of the channel. For this it is using automatic frequency exploration algorithms and extremely narrow and high slope filters. As we pointed out earlier, measuring the noise on the next channel or in the next free channel do not have any value to determinate the signal quality. When the C/N meets the minimum requirements an OK appears on display.
In addition to the basic measurements the instrument includes an automatic Analogue / Digital Detection system to process the signal accordingly. There is a Patent Pending on this method.

RADIX DT-10 S and DT-30S CI - A new dimension in Digital Satellite TV
Upon the basis of the new STI 5512 One-Chip-Platform the Sat-receiver specialist RADIX has developed the new FTA model - DT-10 S. With a switch -on time from standby-to-picture of around 3 seconds and a programme switching time of less then 0.5 second, the DT-10 S can be compared with any analogue receiver.
With a menu controlled installation procedure and factory presets of all ASTRA and HOTBIRD channels, this new RADIX model has all the advantages of digital satellite technology.
A very helpful feature is the putting together of favourite programme lists. With the many hundreds of digital programmes which are broadcast it is great when different family members can create and edit their very own programme lists. Whether its the daughter with her music programme list or the father with his news list, the users can put together their own personal list in any particular order.
Wit the Electronic programme guide (EPG) with Now/Next and event information, motor control with DiSEqC 1.2, multi-parental lock control and programme data copy function the RADIX DT-10 S is very well equipped.
